My mother's side are the Cash's from Chadolly, Cuba, Convention and especially Fraser Street (See the other posts from Matron). Do you have the Covenant links?
Welcome BTW
FA is 'full age'. Pres records will give occupations.
Are you in NI?

There are only two Henry Nicholsons listed leasing property in N. Ireland around 1864, one in Drumadoney, Dromara Parish, and one in Lisnawhiggel, Connor Parish. There are three listed in Southern Irish Counties. Where did William say he was born (on the census return)? What was his father's occupation given as on his marriage certificate? RosemaryJoan

William Henry NICHOLSON 1872-1950
|
Hello RosemaryJoan, Thank you for your reply to my posting,
On William's marriage record, Henry is shown as a laborer The parish/ district is given as Belfast Co. Down The Church was in B'Macarrett-St. Patrick's Church of Ireland
On the census and actually every single document including Canadian documents, that i have been able to see William is shown as being born in County Down. And family tradition agreed with those facts as William was an Orangeman.
William is also known by my procurment of his Canadian Military papers WW1 as having been in Royal Irish Rifles for 13yrs
I imagine that was prior to him leaving the UK in 1913.
Thank you for any help you might be able to provide, I am really at a brick wall.
1) I have been unable to locate a birth cert for William that I was hoping might show both parents names or some other little "gem" of info that would allow me to pick up the trail.
2) I have not been able to ascertain with any degree of certainty anything about Henry other than his given name and occupation. That being from Williams marriage cert.
Thank you for any help/guidance you might be able to provide, I am really at a brick wall. And feel as though i am overlooking something.
Kindest Regards, Noreen

in 1863 there were lots of Nicholsons living in Drumadoney, Parish of Dromara (about 5 miles from Hillsborough, among them, Henry, James,John,Richard and William. Henry Nicholson (father Henry) married Agnes Rainey (father William) in 1865. Cannot find out which church but their marriage is in www.ancestryireland.co.uk and you can view it for £4. It looks as if these might be William Henry's parents. If you can find out the church you will probably find his baptism in the Church Records. He may not have been registered as 'William Henry' - possibly Henry William?? Many people were moving to Belfast at this time for work (my own included - from the next townland!) and if Henry was a younger son, he would have to make his own way, rather than work on on the famioy farm. This marriage would be worth a look. RosemaryJoan

Darn it! I was hoping that they married in church! However, we will have to find where the other children were baptised. Ballykeel is the next Townland to Drumadoney. In Griffiths Valuation we have Thomas Rainey, leasing land in Ballykeel. Would this be Agnes's father by any chance? Ballykeel in a Townland in Dromore Parish. There are a few Presbyterian Churches in this area so we might be able to find out which one the Nicholson's attended. However, in Emerald Ancestors we have a Henry Nicholson, born 1870, Co. Down, and a William Nicholson, born 1871 Co. Down. I don't have a subscription for Emerald just now. Anyone else have one?? Could he have given the wrong year for his birth? RosemaryJoan
