GRAY - Newtown Linford
« on: Friday 12 June 09 19:16 UTC (UK) »

Good evening

I am doing some research for a friend and this journey has taken us to Newtown Linford, can anyone help with PRs and MIs please.

I am looking for the name GRAY in particular Thomas GRAY born abt 1766 but this is just a guess, he married Mary HERRICK in 1796 at Newtown Linford, I have 5 children for them, all information is from the IGI.

Have the MIs been 'done' for Newtown Linford?

Any help is always appreciated.

Mike, I just can't believe it, how wonderful, if you did the transcribing then many thanks if not and you know who did then please pass my thanks and that of my friend who's ancestors they are.

I am not new to Family History but I can honestly say this is the first time I have seen MIs done in this fashion and it is as good as seeing the headstones.

Thank you again, with kindest regards

Now wouldn't that be a connection  Grin

<I hope you explored that site to it's fullest extent ? >

Indeed, that is what I am doing right now.  I now know the history of the MIs and am busy filling in the information for my friend.  I wish I had found a site like this for my own ancestors, the web master and contributors have my grateful thanks, I can't wait to show my friend.

With kind regards

Greeting’s Again. ….DeeN.

I too got the same notice…..

Could be it contained what was inscribed on the Tombs
within the Church it’s self.

Regarding no entry to that section then…..
I can only think that part is under going an update
And so a block on the link is in place

Maybe it will be opened again soon…….

Greeting’s again. …DeeN.

There is an Index Link is above the links to headstones

BUT …….not very helpful.

Copied details :~

67 S32, S33, S34, S45

68 S44, S46, S47, S48

69 S53, S54, S55, S56

I translate these to read left to right

67. = Page No'.
S  = Row No’.
32  = Plot No’.

Thus giving the location within the Churchyard

MIKE. …Exits right >>>>>>> Walking  backwards bowing to Royalty….. Grin

UPDATED.

Just had another look at the Headstones
Yes the No's. in the index relates to the drawings  of the headstones

S44, S46, S47, S48  = Your Gray's

Hi Mike

 Smiley Smiley Smiley

Thanks I got all the GRAY's I was trying to see if I could work out of any of the marriages of the GRAY ladies.

By the by, the ancestors from my family I am trying to link up with is Sir William BRERETON the parliamentarian who was beheaded for an alleged dalliance with Anne BOLEYN - now wouldn't that be a nice connection.

Kind regards

Hi Mike

Grin Grin Grin

Indeed a short carriage ride away  Grin  The Stamfords lived at Dunham Massey, I have been a visitor there many times Wink

I think the connection with the GREY's is he succeeded the barony of Grey of Groby via a distant cousin.

I noted that on the MI for William ADAMS (the brother of Elizabeth who married Joseph GRAY) it says this

….. and one of the Gamekeepers of
The Earl of Stamford and Warrington

Amiable in his deportment and
faithful in the discharge of his
Duty, he lived universally
respected and lost his life on the
30 May 1829
in assisting to drag a fishnet
through the culvert in this village

That should be an interesting one to follow up.
