1881 Cencus-Infantry Camp, St Botolph
« on: Monday 17 August 09 08:39 UTC (UK) »

I have Patrick Boylan aged 17 based here in the 1881 Cenus. He was in Medway Kent by 1911. Trying to see where he was inbetween these dates.

Hi eevee

You don't say where he was born but is this him in the 1901 Census?

Trooper Patrick Boyland Married aged 37 b Enniskillen, Ireland on Vessels Off Netley, Southampton Water, Hampshire, England in the district of Harlech Castle. He is a soldier.

RG13 Piece 1064 Folio 77 Page [3 of 25]
The Census has been damaged so no idea of which vessel.

Thanks that is the right one. As my Grandad is the Grant, I now know he was born in 1864, somewhere in Ireland.
Im not sure you search Army records.

Hi Wendy

The census district is the name of the vessel - the Harlech Castle.

Eevee

Are you saying he is the one in the AOC, rather than the Trooper onboard the Harlech Castle?

He is not the trooper .
Have now heard he was in the Royal West Kent Group as a colour sergaent. And his son Grant joined the same group in ww1.
