Thought I would update you with the info the sent back recently from Preston:

~~~~~~~~--------------------------------------------
1. The older man was definitely a member of the South Lancashire Regiment (as confirmed by his cap badge).
The uniform would have been worn in the early part of the 20th century ie just before WW1 and just after.
This photo could have been taken just before (or during!) as he has no WW1 medal ribbons on his jacket.  Orford was also the Depot of the SLANR.
2.  The younger man - it is impossible to tell what regiment he was in.
It is also hard to pin point the uniform era but i would go for pre WW1.
Incidentally the 2nd Battalion of the SLANR were stationed at the Curragh in 1912 and 1913.
~~~~~~~~----------------------------------------------

Given this info I am now pretty certain these are both either named Bibby or Savage as they are the only families in my tree that would be in the right area & time, just need to work out now who they are!

Think I may need to hit the WW1 records again & see what I can find.

Hmmmm I just checked on Ancestry & I found this:
Name: A S Wilson
Regiment or Corps: RH & Royal Field Artillery, Lancashire Fusiliers
Regimental Number: 83830

The area would tie in, the family were all from Lancashire my only problem now is:  have no 'Wilsons' in my family tree so no idea who he is!
There doesnt seem to be a next of Kin listed on ancestry so I am going to have to try & find out who he belongs to

I'd go with the South Lancs Rgt as well.

Looks like the photo was taken in the late 20's early 30's and he's parading his old uniform for the camera. I'm sure it's the same chap as well!

You could always take both photos along to the museum if you're in the area and see what they have to say. They're based in Warrington at:

Peninsula Barracks
Warrington
Cheshire
WA2 7BR
England

David

Hmmm I am not far away but housebound right now (recovering from an operation)
Wonder if I could email them the photos maybe, have to give them a call now & see.

I kind of thought turn of the centuary to end of WW1 given the handlebar style moustache cos I have seen photos of WW1 generals & the like with them.

now to figure out who he is, I will let you know what the museum says.

Thank You

Gaille

Morning David / Gaille, you mught not be aware but the museum at Warrington has now closed, and has rfelocated to Lancaster as part of the amalgamation of Regiments.

Hi Phil,

Thanks for your reply, yes I did know that Warrington had closed.
I contacted there forst & they suggested I contacted Regimental Headquarters in Preston and they looked at the photo & gave me the info they could on it.
