Newbie Researching Salmon, Packman, Back, Jewiss, and Best in Kent
« on: Friday 12 June 09 22:46 BST (UK) »

Hello -

I just started thinking about the people in my tree from the early 1800s in Kent.

Sarah Salmon b. 1805 Horton Kirby to William Salmon and Sarah Read

William Packman b. 1816 Eynsford to Thomas and Ann Packman
m. Esther Back b. 1816 Eynsford to Henry Back and Catherine Page

Simon Jewiss b. 1814 Dartford to unknown
m. Mary Ann Best b. 1814 Northfleet to Edward Best and Amey Fielder

Let me know if you share any similar interests in these people.  I have census reports for most and some baptism, marriage, death information.  Very little information about all of their parents though.  Simon Jewiss is my biggest mystery so far, so I may post some separate questions about him soon.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

How much time have you spent on the cityark site?

There's some good stuff on there, although perseverance is required!

A bit...but yes, the page by page approach is a slow one.  I've only just finished finding census reports to give me a better idea of locations, key events.  That will probably be my next endeavor.

Hi, I have an uncle Ernest Jewiss (deceased) and three cousins of the Jewiss family from around the Stroud, Kent area.
My cousins were born in India as Ernest was a Regimental Sargeant Major in the army around 1920/30 stationed in India at the time.
I understand some members of the family worked and lived on the Medway and Thames river barges.

Hi.

Its STROOD Kent in The Medway Towns!

I also have the Packman family from Cliffe Kent which is very close to Strood in my tree c 1760.
