Hi
Looking for anyone else who has been researching the Semmens family of miners, who moved to the Rhondda in Wales in the late 1800s.

Hi Jacqui,
A Big Welcome to RootsChat.
Hope you find some connections. I see you have found the Surname Interests Table and entered your interest so that is good.
If there is anything we can help you with just ask. Do you know where in Cornwall your family were from?
All the Best.............Kris

Thanks for responding so quickly!
I have James and his wife, Caroline (nee Guy) born in either St Hilary or Perranuthnoe, Cornwall.
The frustrating part is that no matter which generation I am researching or if they are in England or Wales, everyone has the same name!!

Hi Jacqui,
Is this the couple who moved to Wales? (James and Caroline) I have just been taking a look at 1891 and 1901 in Wales and I see a James Thomas b about 1862 Perranuthnoe and his wife Jane in Neath Glamorgan. Not spotting a James and Caroline.
Trouble with a name like this is it can have so many variants Simmons even Symons/Symonds. Also see a James 1850 St Just and wife Elizabeth in Llantrisant.

I know it's definitley Semmens. My great grandfather (David Emmanuel) was born in Pontypridd in 1892 - moved to Australia in 1949. His father is William Thomas Semmens, possibly born in Penzance in 1857. He married Mary Hannah Hodges - somewhere.
William Thomas Semmens' father was James Semmens, son of Thomas Semmens and Martha Roberts. I think william moved to Wales, possible beofre he married Mary Hannah. (I know these names are correct, as William Thomas and Mary Hannah are also the names of David Emmanuel's eldest two children.)
Cheers.....Jacqui
I am trying to determine actual places of birth and the correct siblings! In the 1861 census, it appears that there is a Simmons family living next door, with parents James and Jane Simmons. Phew!

this may be an interesting document
Thomas Semmens b 1782 was a farmer in 1841, his father was named William Thomas as well ...I wonder if these people are yours:
[no title] ARD/166/257 1830 Docs held at CRO Contents: William SEMMENS of Ludgvan, farmer Jn. Semmens v. wm. Semmens
searching on IGI William b 1782 ludgvan did have a brother John ... I wonder if they were arguing about their father's farm ?
another doc
Online Document IR 26/341 Will of William Semmens Yeoman Ludgvan, Cornwall . Proved in the Court of Exeter. Date: 1810.
