George Bone, son of Rudd Bone and Mary Wordingham
« on: Saturday 13 June 09 14:38 UTC (UK) »

Hi all,

I'm helping a friend with his family history, and I've got his ancestor George Bone, son of Rudd Bone and Mary Wordingham, baptised 5 March 1848 in Stiffkey, Norfolk.

In the 1871 census, RG10/5034, folio 9, page 11, George Bone appears in South Shields, Co. Durham, as a 23 year old Labourer, (late fishmonger), born Norfolk, Stiffkey, married to Ann J. (?), aged 21, born Norfolk, Hardingham, with their son George H. Bone on page 12, aged 7 months, born Norfolk, Brunton.

I can't find a marriage on freebmd for George Bone to Ann J., and wondered if anyone has these people in their tree, or has any information on the birth of baby George H. Bone in Brunton?

Thanks for any help.

Kind regards,
Shirelass

Hi Shirelass,

There's a likely marriage

Dec 1868 Erpingham 4b 174
George Bone - Ann Jemima Sardler

(FreeBMD has the page number as 474 for George but looking at the actual image it's clearly 174)

Smiley

I can't spot an Ann Jemima Sardler at all on earlier censuses. Very rare surname, it seems. There are only 4 marriages for that surname in the whole FreeBMD database  Huh

This looks like George H's birth registration:
George Henry Bone
Sep 1870
Walsingham 4b 280
(Brinton was apparently transferred from Erpingham district to Walsingham district in 1869)

Hi Tati,

Many thanks for your reply, and the marriage reference.  I'll send off for the marriage certificate.

With my kind regards,

Maybe her surname should be Sadler

There's a birth
Ann Jemima Sadler
Sep 1848
Walsingham 13 338

This girl is from Hindringham (1851 census HO107/1826 412 15 - shout for details if you don't have access) and looking at Ann J Bone's birth place in 1871, I think it says Hindringham Norfolk.

Interestingly, her younger brother William seems to marry as Sardler as well (1872 Whitby)

Hi Tati,

Many thanks indeed for your further replies, and great information.   Thank you, I have access to the census returns, and can now go off to follow your leads.

Lots more to work on now, and certificates to send for:-))

My thanks again for your speedy help.
