Anyone help me?
I am researching my family tree, doing most of it on line.
I have a Catherine Green born in Ireland in the 1800's she died a Pauper on 2 Jan 1882 at Hilton of Forthar, Kettle, Fife. aged 78. Her parents are listed as John & Mary Green. She had a son James Maguire also born in Ireland. He married a Janet Wallace on 15 Apr.1851 at Markinch, Fife. His death certificate give his parents as a John Maguire & Catherine Green.
Catherine is listed in the 1851,1871, 1881 census no sign of her in the 1861 census at Kettle but there is a Catherine Green visiting 2 William St., Dundee. There is an Ann,Margaret and Mary Green (sisters) residing there along with an Ally Maguire and a Catherine Trauner. Hope someone can help.

It looks like you are doing pretty well on your own!
With what specifically were you wanting help?
If you want to work out the relationship between Catherine and the people she was visiting in Dundee then the best way would be to try and trace them through the census records and get and certificates you can in order to find out their parents names. They may be siblings or cousins/nieces depending on ages.
Do you know if there is a headstone for Catherine? Less likely if she was a pauper, but could be worth checking. There are books available of MIs and several rootschatters have offered lookups in the past for Fife.

This is my family. I researched this over Christmas. Catherine married John, I think in Ireland and had James. This line continued onto my Grandfather in Cardenden, where my father, Uncle and Aunt were born. My brother, sister and I were born in Kirkcaldy, as were my sister's two boys. The line continued recently with my twin sons, who are 5 months old, born in Liverpool. I might know you? Kitty Green is the name my family used for Catherine. I have no idea where in Ireland she and John Maguire were from. My wife is Irish, so the Maguire's have somewhat returned. My boys are Scots-Irish-Scousers. Isn't family history a funny thing?

Hi, Kitty Green was my 3rd great grandmother. My Grandmother was Janet Maguire b 1885 she was the daughter of Thomas Maguire b1866. Thomas was the son James Maguire who was the son of Kitty Green & John Maguire.
I know my Uncle John used to drive a Laundry Van and he used to visit a relation in Fife and was of the understanding that it was a relation and she used to cut men's hair. This is going back at least 40 years.
You will need to fill me in on where you come in as I have a long list of Maguire's.
Hope to hear more from you.

I don't have the information here, but my family are from a different son of James Maguire's. the youngest I think. The family James married into worked on the railways. James did so himself if I remember. I don't know of any hairdressers. We stayed in Kettlebridge, until moving to Cardenden, then Kirkcaldy. I will pass on the full details when I am back in Liverpool with my laptop. Currently working in Eastbourne running an English Language Summer School. Speak soon.
