Looks like there were only 26 Purgavie in Scotland on the 1861. All Perthshire or Angus.
I've not checked alternative spellings.

Is he the one born Liff in 1855 - cos he's a police constable in St clement, Dundee in 1881. Wife is down as Euphemia. Children are Alexander, Ann, James and Robert.

From the Ancenstry tree for Charles Burns Purgavie:
- Mother Ann Grant had died by 1885 (date of his marriage) - 18 Dec 1885, age 26, Marriage to Mary Reid in Glasgow - The family show as living at 56 Dover Street, Glasgow for 1891 and 1901. - Charles' occupation is given as a blacksmith in later years. - Death details show as 28 June 1934, age 74 in Pollokshields Glasgow
Family details show as:
