HI ALL  Smiley

could SKS please look up the 1861 census for alexander purgavie
if i'm correct he should be born c1830 and be living in dundee or
monifieth area
his wife was janet(jessie)(nee bell) born c1835
children james purgavie b. 1855 liff & benvie , jane ann purgavie
b. 1858 dundee
janet(his wife) died 1862 monifieth

that's them
i wasn't sure which alexander purgavie it was
looks like jean ann purgavie died 1858 dundee
i've now accounted for every purgavie on the 1881 census and they
are all linked to the same line from longforgan perthshire

Looks like there were only 26 Purgavie in Scotland on the 1861. All Perthshire or Angus.

I've not checked alternative spellings.

so far i have 54 purgavie birth surnames from 1742 to 1880
all on the same line so it isn't a common name
i've put them all on tribalpages

can't find james purgavie married to grace duncan 1875 perthshire
on 1881 census or their children
charles burns purgarvie married mary reid ? or children

Is he the one born Liff in 1855 - cos he's a police constable in St clement, Dundee in 1881. Wife is down as Euphemia.  Children are Alexander, Ann, James and Robert.

From the Ancenstry tree for Charles Burns Purgavie:

- Mother Ann Grant had died by 1885 (date of his marriage)
- 18 Dec 1885, age 26, Marriage to Mary Reid in Glasgow
- The family show as living at 56 Dover Street, Glasgow for 1891 and 1901.
- Charles' occupation is given as a blacksmith in later years.
- Death details show as 28 June 1934, age 74 in Pollokshields Glasgow

i came by a old family tree(20 year +) and did the research on my direct line
it was only recently i went back to this and discovered how few purgavies
there were , so i thought they must all be connected somehow
hopefully this will help anyone researching this name
