Hannah Maddison came to Oz aged 7
« on: Wednesday 15 July 09 06:46 UTC (UK) »

Hi
I'm trying to find any info on Hannah's mum and Dad - William Maddison and Elizabeth Smith.
Hannah was born 1854 at Hexham - father a brickmaker in Mickley Square.
Next thing I know is Hannah in a workhouse in Hexham - then in 1862 she's on the Marco Polo, travelling alone, to Australia - what happened  Shocked

It is possible both parents died. There are only 1 possible death for William in Northumberland  1859 and  a few for Elizabeth between 1854 and 1861.

Did her brother George, aged 5 in 1861, come to Australia too?
Unfortunately William and Elizabeth didnt marry til 1854 so it will be hard to find them before that.

Hi Trish,
Thank you for replying.
I'm suspecting that both parents died as they don't appear on the 1861 Census.
There was no other Maddison on board the Marco Polo - haven't thought to look for him after that - I would assume he would have gone with his sister if at all.
Would there be much information on that William death in Northumberland?
"Elizabeth Smith" - such a common name - I guess there's no luck there.
By the way, gorgeous baby in the photo  Cheesy
