Hi,

An Alexander Gifford was buried in 1804 at Longstanton All Saints.

No other details but Longstanton may be another place to search.  Not too far from Over.

hi Anne
i had a look at the microfilm for the parish of over. i found that Elizabeth's maiden name was desborough and not disborow. also there was another Gifford family in over= john and Sarah do you know about these? how do you know about James desborough Gifford 16th July 1785, because his name was unreadable on the film. Hi Wayne,
I wouldn't put too much weight on the fact the speelin in the parish records on film is at varaince to what you expected.. the two surnames when said aloud are quite simmilar and they wouild have been written down as the clerk thought he'd heard them.

Hi Wayne
Sorry fot the delay in replying but I've been away. As Charlotte says the names are probably the same. I use the microfiche from the cfhs and they have five variations of the name in the index-Disbrow, Disbrowe, Disborow, Disborough and Desborough!

I think that the people who transcribe the fiche will look at the Bishops transcripts if part of the original records are illegible-I've seen referenes to BTs in several places

A John Gifford jun bac of Over married Sarah Tubbs in Haddenham on 9th Dec 1781-one of the witnesses was Robert Porter. This was probably my 5x great grandfather. He married a Mary Tubbs.
