Baptism at St Johns Church, Halesowen
« on: Sunday 14 June 09 08:22 UTC (UK) »

Hi everyone,

I wonder if anybody could do me a big favour and have a look for a baptism for the following person, whose details I found on the IGI:

St John's Church, Halesowen

George Hodgetts, christened 21 Jul 1822, parents John Hodgetts and Hannah

It would be great to know what the abode is listed as, as I am trying to piece together the family's movements.

Many thanks in advance,
Sophie

21st July 1822 George Hodgetts son of John and Hannah Hodgetts.

Abode, Farmer
Occupation Cakesmore (or possibly Cakemore)

The vicar had filled in the wrong columns on a number of entries on the page.

Hope this helps

Hi ridgehill,

Thank you so much for that. Cakemore would make a lot of sense. I am trying to establish where the Hodgetts came from originally, and a lot of the evidence now seems to point to Cakemore, so this information is great.

Thanks again,

I am a Hodgetts and have been trying to find out about where the family originated from.

Check this out, scroll right to the bottom of the page;

http://www.handsworth-history.org/hhs_early_1.html

Also there is a book called Out of the Mahogany Chest by K C Hodgson (female writer) which I was pointed in the direction of by a Hodgetts descendant in New Zealand. It makes for interesting reading if you can get hold of a copy from you local library. When I borrowed a copy it had to be sent for specially from the British Library archive at Thorpe Arch, Boston Spa.

Of course I don't know of any of the mention Hodgetts will be relatives, but it all makes for interesting reading.

Regards

Hi Philip,

Thanks so much for your kind suggestion. It is fascinating to read about the Hodgetts name dating back so far in the Midlands, particularly John Hodgetts!

I will definitely have to try and track down a copy of the book you suggested, that sounds great.

Thanks again,
