Multiple windows opening at once
« on: Sunday 14 June 09 10:08 BST (UK) »

This is not a request for help but a solution to a problem I had yesterday.
When I switched on my computer it took some time to open up and then went haywire, opening multiple windows.  I managed to halt this process and opened the programme I wanted to use.  Again, multiple windows opening and this time it took some time to stop it.  There were over fifty windows opened of the same programme and weird noises coming from the computer, which I honestly felt was getting ready to blow up.
After I managed to turn the computer off and had a coffee to calm my shattered nerves I got myself ready to pay a visit to the Computer engineers.  Started to unplug everything when I noticed that the return key was slightly more depressed than the other keys.  It did not stand out and I would not have seen it if the keyboard had been in its normal flat position.  I pulled the key back into its correct slot, booted up the computer and everything is fine.  I will be getting a new keyboard anyway just in case it happens again.
I posted this as it may help other people with a similar problem.

Hi Jean,

Twice that has happened to me, I was clicking on a post and up came multiple blank windows.  Whole computer came to a standstill, both times I just had to switch off at the computer and restart.  I have no idea how I got the mutliple windows.

Maybe the machine was telling me it needed a break from Rootschat Grin

Sticky keys indeed!!!
I fully believe mine was caused by second in command trying to find information from the Internet.  He does not type, he thumps the keyboard until it gives in.

Yes it is always cleaned, a habit from when we had to clean the Manual typewriters each friday afternoon many years ago., so I progressed over the years, electric, electronic, and still cleaned them. Smiley    The computer just went to a standstill, cursor wouldn't even move.

I am not a thumper either. Smiley
