Hi Chevron,

Welcome to RootsChat  Grin

Unfortuanately we are unable to assist with living persons but I have left the thread so as our members may be able to offer advice or help you further privately. Can you please reply a couple of times so that we are able to communicate with you through our secure PM system. I have left you the URL for the Telephone Directory to see if there is a listing. I can see the person you are after seems to have arrived without family aboard the CASTLE FELICE which departed from Southampton 22 Oct 1957. Destination Melbourne. The entry lists his date of birth and a Belfast address which I will be happy to PM you once you have made a couple more posts.

All the best in your search

Cheers Kris  Smiley

Added - I have checked the telephone directory and find two persons listed in Victoria with the correct initials so may be worthwhile contacting them  Grin

I have wrote to the library with no luck also checked election registry found one J.L. wrote to them but turned out to be an elderly lady no connection. I also have other McClure's but do not know where they are.

Hi Chevron,

I wonder if the information you have is correct.  Undecided On looking for mum I believe she was on the same ship, which would make the death you have incorrect. There is no Mary/Minnie McCLURE/MACCLURE listed as dying in NSW in 1957 or around this time.

http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/search.htm

I believe they arrived in Melbourne so perhaps she died there but not on the date you have as the ship left Southampton on the 22 Oct 1957

I am going to PM the shipping but this looks like Mary

McCLURE M (female) date of Birth 10 Aug 1904, Married address 46 Cumberland St Belfast, occupation - Wife

Now the details I have coloured are not in the original ink. They have been later added in a different pen. The original did not contain a date of birth, marital status or occupation for this passenger. She is not the only passenger where details have been added at a later time. I did not realise she was on the ship originally as she is not listed on the same page as the boy - though address is the same.

I am sure one of our members will be able to see if there is a death listed for Mary/Minnie in Victoria.  Grin

I had a look at the Sydney Morning Herald for a death notice for Minnie - no McClures at all for 3-4 days prior to the date given. Sad

Thanks for trying Cando and Judith. I don't know what to think. She can not have died on the date Chevron has, as she had not left England at that time. I cannot see a death listed in NSW to 1978 (extent of death records) Nothing in SA either. Waiting on Chevron I guess to see if she knows anything further. I had hoped as they arrived into Melbourne she may have died there........Kris  Cry

Hi to you all. This has been a puzzel to me for a number of years. This is the information I have.
(*) 51 Downing St. Belfast.Mother Mary Luney aka Minnie  born 1904. Father Robert McClure b Dec 1903 d Dec 1939.
The story I was told was Minnie was taking John (Jackie) to Au. to her family as Minnie was sick, and as the ship was entering Sydney harbour Minnie died
that is as the story go's
Now as to the Death of Minnie I got it from Australasia.org showing a Mary McClure died 1st May 1957 Sydney NSW 1579 showing father Looney Spouse Robert McClure. This is where I got the orignal information and date's from. The post about this seems to check as to birth dates but??? maby some one ca sort out this from AustralasiaBDM. Thanks Chevron PS notice differant spelling of Looney/Luney

Hi Folks,

I don't know the site, but here is what Chevron is talking about. (Took a bit of finding) There is a submitter who it appears would be contactable if you were registered. If somebody has the certificate, we should be able to find the registration, even if the wrong date has been posted.  Undecided

http://www.ausbdm.org/search.php

We know the date at least is wrong as she had not even left England at that time. The CASTEL FELICE was also calling at Sydney but these passengers had tickets to Melbourne. They date of births fit as Chevron has agreed.

You have been told that Minnie was taking her boy to Australia to her family as she was sick already.  This is probably a silly question but do you have any clues as to the identity of her family that the boy was to go to?

Judith. Sorry I do not know Minnie's family in Au.
Also J was 21 years old at that time, there is only one member of Roberts family  his youngest sister still living in Belfast and she is in a home

Ignoring all the other "evidence" I searched in Victoria and found the following but not in 1957.  Note the surname of the father and a burial record for John Luney McLURE in 1991.
