Hello
I'd be very grateful for any possible help with this please.
Looking for burial record of Thomas MACKENZIE. Cannot find him in 1861 Census or his death in Statutory Records, so assume he died prior to 1855.
He was alive in 1851 census of St Cuthberts, Edinburgh: Address: 162 Fountain Bridge. Thomas MACKENZIE, Head, Widr, 47, Butler, born Rosshire Elizabeth MACKENZIE, Daur, U, 19, Housekeeper, born Invernesshire - Inverness Mary MACKENZIE, Daur, U, 11, Scholar, born Edinburgh - St Cuthberts Thomas MACKENZIE, Son, 7, Scholar, born Edinburgh - St Cuthberts James MACKENZIE, Son, 5, At home, born Edinburgh - St Cuthberts
Also looking for burial record of his wife Mary MACKENZIE (nee BAIN). Died between 1845 - 1851? Thomas listed as a widower in 1851 above and their youngest son was aged 5 in that year.
1841 census of St David's, Edinburgh: Address: 5 Romilly Place. Mary Mc Kenzie, 30, [No Occupation] not born in Midlothian Elizabeth Mc Kenzie, 10, [No Occupation] not born in Midlothian Robert Mc Kenzie, 7, [No Occupation] born in Midlothian Georgina Mc Kenzie, 4, [No Occupation] born in Midlothian Mary Ann Mc Kenzie, 2, [No Occupation] born in Midlothian
Thanks

Death/burial records from the OPR are now available on ScotlandsPeople - pay per view. Read the information before you search - not all parish records pre 1855 contain these records. Good guidance is given on the site.

Hi Saw your message and wondered if I am looking for the same people. The Elizabeth McKenzie (child of Thomas and Mary (Bain) connected to Boath House. I wonder if she went on to have a number of children withJohn Lockhart from Edinburgh. They had Elizabeth, Phyllis, William, Mary, Agnes, and John. The Elizabeth I am looking for had a sister Mary and was born in1828 in Inverness. Sounds the same. My problem is on the 1861 census she is the wife of John Lockhart but on subsequet censuses she is Elizabeth McKenzie housekeeper but mother of all the children. I cannot find any marriage certificate. All the children were classed as illigitimate except William born in 1860. Hope you can help. Brettell

Hi
Yes, we are talking about the same family! Elizabeth had 3 sisters Georgina, Mary & Agnes and brothers James Thomas & Robert. (I am descended from Thomas).
I have same info as you. She never married, but kids were Elizabeth,Phillis, William, Mary, Agnes & John.
The census info I have collected is:
1851 HOUSE KEEPER EDINBURGH 1861: WIFE TO JOHN LOCKHART LIVING AT BROWNS PLACE 1871: NAMED ELIZABETH MCKENZIE. HOUSE KEEPER FOR JOHN LOCKHART 1881: DRESSMAKER. LIVING WITH KIDS AT 10 EAST RICHMOND ST
I can't find Elizabeth in th 1891 census. I've found a death record for Elizabeth McKenzie who died in Edinburgh Royal Asylum. The info is not complete like other death records. I've attached the death certificate for you.

Hi Elizabeth McKenzie is my husband's great great grandmother. I have a census record of 1891 where she is living at 24 Bristo Street St Giles, Midlothian, Edinburgh. She is living with Phyllis her daughter and Thomas (9yrs) her grandson. There is also an Elizabeth Wardman (12yrs) who i her granddaughter (Elizabeth's daughter) Elizabeth marries a John Wardman in 1875. Phyllis never marries but has a number of illigitimate children - Thomas, Margaret and Elizabeth. I have a death certificate for Elizabeth McKenzie in 1894. I think my certificate is more likely to be the correct one as it states widow of John Lockhart, dies at 24 Bristo Street Edinburgh and the informant is Phyllis Lockhart her daughter who was present. I hope this helps. I do have other info relating to the decendents of Elizabeth and Phyllis (daughters of Elizabeth McKenzie). My problem is I cannot find birth, death or any other info on John Lockhart the defacto husband of Elizabeth. Am also interested in ay info relating to the McKenzie family. Talk soon. I am having trouble sending you a copy of these documents. Will investigate and try later.
