TIERNEY family
« on: Monday 12 January 09 10:22 UTC (UK) »

I am trying to get any information on the Tierney family who moved to Birkenhead before 1851.

On the 1851 census for Birkenhead I have information as follows:-

Matthew Tierney Head aged 62 Stonemason born Co Tipperary
Mary Tierney Wife aged 57 born co Tipperary
Michael Tierney aged 25 son Labourer born Co Tipperary
James aged 12 born Lancashire (no other info)
Ann O'Donohoe aged 26 visitor Laundress born co Tipperary

Michael Tierney and Ann Donohoe in 1856 have a child together Sarah. I cannot find any evidence that they actually married.

I have looked on the Griffith valuation  and found a Matthew Tierney- Tipperary-North Riding-Thurles-Garryvicleheen-Garryvicleheen Street.

I do not have any idea as regards religion only that Ann remarried in a CofI church in Liverpool (I should say possible marriage, awaiting the cert.) and their daughter married in Birkenhead Parish church.

I would love to hear if anyone else is researching this family or if anyone is familiar with the area.

Many thanks

Jacqui

Hi

Thank you so much for your reply. It would be wonderful if they were from the same family. I am not familiar with Tipperary so any help or advice would be wonderful.

Hello,
Just going through the messages, which I haven't done for sometime and came across this posting.  Thought I'd have my two cents worth!  I have a Patrick TIERNEY who was a sponsor to Ellen CHIDDLE at her baptism, Kilmore Clonoulty,( extract from the Thurles Parish Records Dec. 1987, info. from another rellie).  Ellen's parents were John CHIDDLE and Ellen DEVERIX/DEVEREUX who weere m. 21Jan.1834 in the Parish of Clonoulty Rossmore.  Don't know if this will be of any help but maybe someone will see this and even give me some info.   bee
