RG12 103 is in Marylebone not Paddington. There are 8,099 names on this one piece. I checked a street index for the London 1891 census. There was no New Street in Paddington. For Marylebone the New Street references were
New Street Charles Street St. Johns Wood Dorset Square RG12 103 folio 104-112 and RG12 100 folio 54-59
New Street Mews Upper Park Place RG12 100 folio 50-54.
I checked 11 New Street on RG12 103. It is folio 106
There were three households
Samuel Barber 42 born Marylebone with his wife and two lodgers
Alfred Campion 36 born Marylebone with his wife and two children
Alfred Hammond 46 born Paddington with his wife.

That's interesting Valda,
A friend sent me this a year ago;
*************************************
R12/103  Page 219 at 11 New Street Paddington
William TWITCHEN  18 Letter Sorter
**********************************
and said;
"I cant make him fit into the jigsaw ......... are you able to?
New Street was renamed Melcombe Street which is off Chagford Street ............ so he must be one of ours".

and the matter has'nt been resolved as yet ........ big mystery!!

He's one of the two lodgers, but indexed as Turtchen born Marylebone. There is a definite i in the surname.
A Thomas William Twitchen married in Marylebone in 1889

Thanks Valda .......... I'm pretty sure he fits into my tree being born Marylebone as you have advised .......... that surname is prone to being 'mangled' unfortunately.

I have a James William Brown Twitchen, joiner, age 24, living with his wife Alice, 23, at 129 Carlisle Street, New Church Street (or possibly Newchurch Street), St Marylebone in the 1881 Census.

Any help?

Thanks Molly ....... JWBT was probably from the Devonshire (Exeter) branch of the name (I do a 'one name study') and at this stage I do not have a connection.
He must have arrived in London not long before the census.
Thanks for looking,

Thank you. Yes, I have traced the family back to John Twitchen, born Tiverton 1796 and his wife Ann Brown, born Topsham 1796. My cousin's wife Ann (their great, great, great grand-daughter) has the Family Bible, but sadly only some information is written in there, while other details are missing.

For example, do you know who married Alfred Edwin Twitchen born St Marylebone 1892, whose son, also Alfred Edwin Twitchen was born in 1918?

I'm in London, so I have access to Parish Records at the LDS Centre in Kensington, but I haven't been researching this family very long, so haven't been there yet.

Lovely to make contact,
Molly

Hello Molly,
Alfred Edwin born 1892 details may not be available for a while as Free BMD have not,as yet, completed their coverage of 1886/7/8 but it should not be long before they do.
John Twitchin (1796) was a son of John and Mary (nee WITON) and they were married 25 Dec 1781 at Exeter only Mary's surname was 'WITEN'.
They had other children;
Lydia 1785
John 1787 who died soon after birth
Mary 1790
John 1796 who married Ann Brown.He died 1871 at Exeter.
I suspect that John and Mary had another child 'Lydia' born Stoke Dameral 1783.

All through the above the surname has been mangled to Titchings or Tichings or similar so you really need to search very carefully.

Thank you so much, that takes me back another generation in Devon.

If there is any research I can do for you in London, please let me know.

My pleasure Molly,
If you wish I may help further with your Twitchin research if you care to give me what detail you have gathered so far and thanks for your offer to help in my London research.

Hi Molly

I see from your earlier post you are 'in London', you will find more 'actual' records at the London Metropolitan Archives (near Farringdon) and the Westminster City Archives (near St James Park) than at the LDS at Hyde Park where they only have the microfilms they have made of the parish registers they have been working on.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Dawn, I do know about those two, but they are only good for London parishes, for Devon it still has to be LDS or go to Devon in person! Thanks anyway.
