Stephens of Mullingar
« on: Monday 15 June 09 19:48 UTC (UK) »

Can anyone out there help me kick start my Irish ancestors research please? My 3rd great-grandmother was Harriet Stephens, who was born about 1828 in Mullingar, Westmeath. On her marriage certificate, which took place in England, she lists her father as William Stephens, who was an Inn Keeper. Is there anyone out there who has a transcript of the parish records for this period of time? Any help would be really appreciated

Regards

Parish transcripts for Co. Westmeath are available on the Irish Family History Foundation at www.irish-roots.ie

The index is free to search once you register, the record details cost €5 each to view. The level of detail included in the registers varies quite a bit over time and from parish to parish. The site has a list of parishes included and dates covered.

I see two Stephens baptisms around the right time, but no Harriet..

Hi Shane

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. If the records for Mullingar are complete, then she wasn't baptised there, which is going to make things interesting. As for those other Stephens, both of them are the children of a James Stephens

(by kind permission of Noel Farrell)

Had a look at 'Mullingar Roots' 1901 & 1911, but found no Stephens.

In Electors list of 1936/37;

Kilpatrick;
Stephens Michael, Margaret.
