I'm trying to find out more about my 4th great-grandfather, William Hayne who spent at least the last 10 years of his life in Earls Colne. He is listed as a Gentleman and an Independent in various documents. His will, made shortly before his death in 1842, which is also one of the shortest I have seen, only lists his wife. He was born about 1773 but not in Essex. He married a local girl, Sarah Golden in 1833, who was ~30-40 his junior.
I have looked at the Earls Colne records site - http://linux02.lib.cam.ac.uk/earlscolne/ but I couldn't find anything about him, apart from the baptisms of his children. Does anyone else know where I can look to find more information about him?
Regards
Lee

Hi Jibba I have just looked at the Earls Colne site you mentioned above, anyone looking in that area ought to check this out, it is a fantastic site, BUT I guess you might well have got the census from there, so please ignore my efforts above

Hi Louisa
I did see the census return from the Earls Colne site. Thanks for posting them though. It would be nice to find anything extra about him, especially what his occupation was, as he lists himself as a Gentleman or Independent on most documents
Thanks
Lee
