Newsomes of Batley/Dewsbury
« on: Tuesday 16 June 09 00:08 UTC (UK) »

Trying to get info on my grandmother Beatrice Newsome of Batley or Dewsbury.  Think her parents were Benjamin and Nancy (nee Lord). There was also a sister Elizabeth Ann and 2 bros. Alfred and ? My Aunt is 90 and knows little of her Mother's family.  Would like to be able to tell her some more about the family before it's too late.  We are very curious about our family background as there seems to have been some mystery that kept Granny from saying much about her family.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi sharocee and welcome to rootschat Grin

Can you give us some dates for Beatrice please? Was Newsome her married name? If so, do you know when she was married and to whom?

Mysteries are everywhere in family history so be prepared Roll Eyes

Did Beatrice marry a Hudson Lindsay?

If you check the Freebmd records for 1919 it shows 2 Beatrices one called Beatrice Fisher and the other Beatrice Newsome both down for marrying Hudson Lindsay ?

Sorry, I did not give enough info. This is definitely the Newsome family that my Granny (Beatrice Newsome) came from.  Granny's dob is Nov. 18, 1891.  She emigrated to Canada in the early 1900s with her sister Elizabeth Ann and Elizabeth's husband George Nelson.  The couple returned to England due to George's illness after Granny married James Henry Clarke (b. Toxteth Liverpool) in Toronto in 1914.   Don't know how to proceed from here in finding out more about the family's ancestry.  Thank you all for your kind and prompt answers.  I've tried other means and found nothing.
