Feltham boys home records
« on: Thursday 13 August 09 08:15 UTC (UK) »

Hi,
After a long search I have found Albert E Cole, born 1887 Fulham,  in Lowestoft Smack boys home in 1901. This was an extension of the London Count Council (Feltham) which was apparently a boys reform school. I wonder if anyone has access to these records for the years he may have been there. That is 1894 til 1901, as I am not able to visit the London record office.
I cannot find Albert on the 1891 census  although on his marriage certificate it gives his fathers name as Charles.
I am hoping on the Boys home records it will give his details.
Thanks in advance

Hi

It might be helpful to enquire with the London Metropolitan Archives whether any records exist and if so what document/s (reference numbers and titles) could be fruitfully searched and then request a specific look up from there.

Does Albert confirm his birthplace as Fulham on the 1911 census because if so it might be that he appears in the poor law records before he was sent to the Industrial school?

Hi Valda,

I cannot find him on the 1911 census, I think he was at sea.

Hi ,
To all those that helped me, particularly Dawn who gave me the lead I needed.
I couldn't find Albert in 1891 but having got his parents address in 1901 I found him. His name was not Cole on this census as his mother was with Carlo Princepe, a cook from Naples. No wonder I couldn't find Charles the cook. This was his stepfather. On the 1911 census it says they were married 20 years, The age of their oldest child they had together, but in fact they didn't marry until 1916.
Albert and his sister Florence were Coles so now I have sent for their mothers marriage to Carlo to find if she was a Widow or a Spinster, and so they were born out of wedlock.
I would never have got this far without help from this site.
Thanks again.
