Not sure if this is the correct board---the areas are Troqueer and Maxwelltown.
I am after any info onmy Cardy/Cardie Family.T is the info I know.
John Married Elizabeth Linn in Dumfries c1822,they were both born Ireland,their children were
Agness c1824 it would appear she married someone called Rafferty,one known child Margaretc1845.
Margaret c1826 [my line] married william Bottomley later known as Scofield
Samuel c1829
John c 1831
Robertc1834
William c1836
Any info very much appreciated but I am hoping someone will be able to find me the deaths of John snr,he doesn't appear to be on the 71 census and when Elizabeth died in 1880 she was down as widow.The death of Agness Linn down on the 41 cencus as Agness Smyly down as 80 ? on the 41 census

I suspect Line 10 and 11, are one and the same person - ie: Agnes RAFFERTY nee CARDY and her age should be 32, not 52.

I noticed that on the 1851 census in Troqueer the birthplace of dau Margaret (your line) is England.

This also is the stated birthplace of her sister Agnes as seen in 1871.
Perhaps their parents were married in England as well?

So it's the boys of John CARDY(CARDIE) and Elizabeth LINN(LYNN)
who seem to just disappear after 1841....I haven't found any of them anyway!

With their trade - Loom weavers etc, and perhaps coming from a background of very humble means I would wonder if they like many others of that trade, immigrated to America, especially to Pennsylvania where there werea lot of Mill works.....
