Hi
Wondering if anyone could help trace my grandmother's aunt Nellie (Ethel) Evans who emigrated to Canada in or around 1908. The only clues we have are a postcard sent back to Belfast in 1908 from Vancouver. Also my granny says that Nellie married a man out there called Jack or John Farmer. She could possibly have left from Liverpool as the Evans' had family there. Nellie was born in England, possibly St Helens and the Evans family then moved over to Belfast around 1895 as their father had got a job in Frackletons glass works. There were five children- Joseph, b 1881 in St Helens, Ethel dob and place unknown, Emily b 1887 in Belfast, Willie born 1889 in Belfast, Rosina born 1892 in Belfast.
Any suggestions welcome!

Thanks Karen, however I have searched and cannot find her in the 1911 census. Maybe I should try to find her in the immigration records- any ideas on where to start?

Ethel was born between 1882 and 1887, it's hard to say whether she was born in England or Ireland as her family moved over to Belfast before the birth of her sister (my great grandmother Emily), born in Belfast in 1887. If she had been born in England, it's likely it would have been in Lancashire, where the family had previously lived.
We always assumed she had married in Canada and had settled there.... maybe we were all wrong?!
Back to the drawing board! Thanks for all your help!

Sounds great Karie!!!
Only thing is the postcard from Vancouver above is dated 28 April 1908 and Im assuming she had recently arrived when she sent it. Only a week or so between these dates so could it be that even though she was actually in Vancouver on 28th April, the "official" date of arrival was 8th May??
Would still like to know more about the entry you found..

The second Nellie sounds like it might be her- only reason why I say is because her sister was called Rosina May- so I dont think she would have been Ethel May... or could she??
