Marmaduke Buckland
« on: Tuesday 16 June 09 17:34 BST (UK) »

Hi R/C's

L wonder if any of you can unlock a family brick-wall?, there are at least a couple of new found cousins who would like it knocked down, this chap Marmaduke has been puzzling us for a long, long, time.

We think we know he was born abt 1680/85, in Wexham/Waxham, we also know he married Ellin Robertson, in St George's Chapel, Windsor, in 1702, this has been confirmed by those lovely people in the archives.

What l would like to know is 1) in which county was Wexham in, Bucks or Berks, at that time, 1680/85, or did they move things around like todays politicians do. Will be putting the same question on the Bucks site. 2) Just who?, was permitted to get married in the Chapel, yes l know the question has been asked before,
it would  be helpful to get a dollop more info about it,
and what books are there about the rules.

Many thanks in advance
Ken

Hi,
If you go to Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wexham  you will find that Wexham was on the borders of Berks/Bucks but officially in Bucks.  After 1972 reorganisation part of it was transferred to one of the 3 Wards of Slough.

Langley was Buckinghamshire.  Again post 1974, it was moved to Berkshire.

Hi Sylvia

How did you manage to find his birth?, we've been looking for yonks, possibly, I've been looking at the wrong dates for his birth, this makes him old enough to fit the marriage in 1702 at St George's Chapel, Windsor.

If it is possible could you let me know how l can get any paper copies of his birth, and who was his father, this will let me and my two new cousins, x times removed to follow up this info.

Many many thanks
Ken

Ken,

Treat with a large bucketful of salt- it is a member submission with no further details.  I suspect that it has been deduced from the marriage date in 1702 without recourse to any records.

What it actually says is "of Stoke Poges" not that he was born or baptised there.   There is an extracted record for the baptism of a Marmaduke Buckland in Stoke Poges in 1714, with a father Marmaduke Buckland.  I think this is what has led this church member down this path.  Proof still needed.

Sorry  Sad although Stoke Poges is next door to Wexham whichi is next to Langley, and all within easy reach of Windsor.

Hi Nell

Thanks for your timely warning, having looked for so long, for Marmaduke, my excitement took over for a while.

As both him and his wife are, now on the LDS, and both without the necessary records, also stated of Stoke Poges, and not Langley and Wexham, l was beginning to question the situation.

Others, much more knowledgable than me will no doubt pick up on the self same questions, the 1714 one, is the son of the subject, that needs to be found.

However, many thanks for your input.
