Windows Vista SP2
« on: Tuesday 16 June 09 18:40 BST (UK) »

For all those that have SP1 installed, latest update is SP2.
Before you all start downloading it beware, download is a mind bogling 348MB and states that it may take 1hr to install once download is complete.
(Searching for above finds that SP2 can be obtained on CD for those with a slow connection)
You have been warned.

Definitely a big download but I think the install time depends to what extent people have kept the OS up to date since SP1 was released.

I ran the SP2 update the other day and (discounting download time) it took nowhere near an hour to actually install. I assume that is because it only had to install the updates not already applied.

That in no way invalidates your warning though  Smiley

It took roughly 15-20minutes to complete the install once downloaded on my wifes laptop.

To download and install SP2 took me  1hour 25 minutes on my comp. As you say a big download 348MB.
Yes on disc would be better for those with slow connection. I seem to remember on XP when they issued SP2, Microsoft put it on disc and also some Mags. had it as a free disc.
As you say Calverley searching you can find Vista SP2 on disc free I would expect.

I encountered a problem having downloaded SP2, in the final stages of restarting and could not complete installation.  Therefore I downloaded to CD and installed from that. In all about 35 minutes and no further problems.

SP2 contains all the updates since SP1 was released so if you are not up to date with these it will install them. It didn't take that long for me to download or install, probably about 10 minutes to actually install.
