Hi, i am trying to locate my great great grandmother Ada Smith's past.
CAN ANYONE HELP?
The earliest record we have of her is in Kinnersley.
1881 Jos Smith 46, b warwickshire Mary Ann - 42, b staunton on wye Ada Lewis - 2 (nurse child) b. birmingham
can anyone shed any light on this Ada, was she adopted? who were her parents? are there any adoption/nurse child records available that would solve this??
Thanks

As a nurse child, Ada would have been looked after by the family she was with for payment. This would have been an informal arrangement between the (usually) mother and the person/people who looked after her. It is possible that they are relatives, but not likely. Whoever is paying for her to be cared for is probably in the same area. For example it may be a single mother who doesn't work at home, or a widowed father.
Addition On FreeBMD there is only one Ada Lewis born in Birmingham who would be aged 2 on census night 1881 (birth registered in June quarter of 1878)

The IGI shows an Ada Lewis baptised in Birmingham on 1 August 1878. Although this is shown as extracted from local records, it doesn't say which church. Her parents are Edward and Mary Ann Lewis.

Sorry, for some reason my last couple of messages have not shown on the board.
Thanks all thats brill!!
A Mary Ann is with her on a few later censuses, Mary Ann Smith/ Sinnock, could this be the same mary?
Her marriage cert has Samuel Sinnock as her father, but he married Mary A, after her birth.
Thanks

sorry, it does get confusing
I am trying to find Ada Lewis from my 1st post. The confusing thing is she is an Ada Smith in 1891 a domestic servant.
1901 Her son, Samuel James Smith is living with Samuel Sinnock (her father on marriage cert) and Wife Mary A Sinnock
I was wondering if this Mary could have been the Mary Ann Lewis mentioned by Galium.
Hope this helps.

thanks Laurina
we have the marriage for Ada that says her father was Samuel Sinnock. It confused us because we couldn't find any trace of her being with Samuel Sinnock, other than her son Samuel James Smith living with him in 1901.
Samuel Sinnock married Mary Ann Smith Jun 26th? 1883 Weobly, we don't have the actual cert, so I will try to order it.
