Marriage look up please

Is anyone able to do a marriage look up for me please?

My uncle John May was born in Glasgow in 1924 and died in Colchester in 2006.

I believe he married after arriving in Colchester probably about 1942.

I'm just curious to know who he married, he never kept in contact with the family much.

His parents were George May and Elizabeth White.

I appreciate his wife might still be alive but I would like to know what became of him.

If anyone is able to find this information would you PM me please.

I don't know if you have purchased a death certificate for your uncle but it would possibly give you a relative who registered his death and an address, I think I would certainly invest in a certificate

Thankyou very much for your help,

I would request a certificate but at £19.99 I find this a bit excessive.

So I will have to wait a bit longer, until someone can look it up for me or until I can do it my self.

Michelle - you shouldn't ever have to pay more than 7 Pounds for a certificate - if you have the registration district and volume and page number together with the quarter and year

Go to this page

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

Register - then order away - lots of information in the FAQ's if you're not sure

Sounds like you may have been looking at some sort of commercial site - I am amazed they get away with such extortionate prices!!

I agree but I think this person lives abraod, I am not up to how much the certs cost from abroad but this is over the top in my opinion

Thanks for reminding me about the web site. I haven't had to order any certificates for a while so I had

completely forgotten about this one.

By the way the link I had that was asking £19.99 was through Ancestry. There used to be a link to

www.gro.gov.uk but not any more.

By the way I live in Cheshire.

The GRO are very generous and include overseas airmail postage in that 7 Pounds in the same way as they include postage within the UK - should probably keep quiet about it though - else they'll consider charging us more  Sad
