IGI batch numbers
« on: Wednesday 17 June 09 00:20 UTC (UK) »

I was checking some info I had and entered the batch number(Hugh Wallis) for Wawne Yrk and saw that not all the children were shown for the family.I then entered a child not shown(found when checking parish reg)and a different batch number was shown for her.Upon entering new number for the family all the children showed up.Is there any way to find these numbers and what they cover?
To see what I mean enter family Pickering and C109382(hugh Wallis). Then enter 7907935.Big difference.

If you  log onto Hugh Wallis' site, click on the first letter of the town e.g. W, look for Wawne, it shows 2 batch numbers covering different periods.

Both of those numbers start with a letter followed by 6 numbers. My question is how do I find the 7 number batch numbers?

Hi Ed,

The batch number 7907935 relates to information submitted by a member of the LDS church - as opposed to information transcribed from actual parish registers.

Hugh Wallis pages only include the latter, as the former are obviously subjective and may not (and often aren't) to be trusted.

Sorry I forgot to mention the member submitted records, just as well someone else did!

I wonder why they were not included in Hugh Wallis batch numbers? They were certainly in the parish regs.Easy to read.
Back to my question- how does one find these numbers?

As Jillruss said Hugh Wallis only lists Extracted Records, that is records that have been transcribed from the actual Parish Records and are usually location specific and you can order the film to verify.

Batch 7907935 is a Patron Submitted batch, that means they are not transcribed from the Parish Records but are submitted by a member of the LDS church. If you omit the surname Pickering you will see that the batch has records not only from other English counties but also Scotland.

Whilst the entries you are interested in may be in the Parish Records others may not be and identifying the source is difficult.

I don't think that there is a way you could index a patron Submitted batch in a meaningful way as they are not location specific.

Thanks Andy.I did not realize that the batch was a compilation of many submitted records.Too bad that they cannot be searched because in my case there was valuable info that I was able to verify.
