Horham Parish Records
« on: Wednesday 17 June 09 02:03 UTC (UK) »

Does anyone know if a transcript, CD or anything other than a microfiche is available of these records?
I am finding them very hard to locate (except at the LDS).

Hi Michael,
Maybe the FHS that encompasses Horam has a website and tells you what records they have for sale on CD or in hard copy. That's where I'd look were I you.
Worth a try Cheesy

Thanks for the suggestion, Charlotte, but even the Suffolk FHS doesn't appear to have these ones for sale in any form.

Hi Michael

I don't know of any on CD, but most of Suffolk's Anglican Parish Records including Horham St Mary 1594 - 1900 (on microfiche) are available for sale from The Suffolk Record Office.  You only need buy the years that you are interested in, and if you don't own a viewer you may be able to use one at your local library.

Alternatively, if you'd like to tell me/us your interest in Horham,  those of us who frequent these entries, I'm sure, will keep a look out.  In my case especially pre 1740s.

I am looking for the following in Horham:
I have the following removal order: "Thomas Artis and Sarah his wife, Horham to Rishangles  FC 85/G1/26  30th July 1787"

Their first child was born in Rishangles 1788.  I am searching for the birth of either (Thos Artis abt 1767, Sarah Mann abt 1768 from burial records).

I considered that it could be likely that one or other was born in Horham.

Can anyone check this for me.  Thanks

Michael,

I'm not sure if I can help but I have several "Artis" ancestors in my tree. My grandmother was an Ethel Artis but her family all appear to come from Norfolk parishes.
(ie, Norwich, Swannington, Pulham)

The nearest I can come up with is a Thomas Artis baptised 1769 in St.Peter Parmentergate, Norwich who married a Martha Bush.

With a surname like Artis I'm sure we must have a connection along the lines somewhere. Perhaps we can  share what we have.

My Artis line was in Rishangles in 19th C, and so far this Thomas in Horham is as far as I have got, so I can't say if there is any connection.
