I am researching the line of Frederick Bailey who emigrated to New Zealand on the Western Monarch arriving in SouthlandJ in January 1879. A few months after he arived he married Margareet Blee who also travelled on the same voyage with her family - she was aged 18, on the voyage he is listed as Noah Bailey aged 24. I would say they met on board ship - I do not think he came from Germoe in Cornwall which was Margaret's home village. I have her ancestry as a tin mining family from Germoe and Breage in Cornwall. Frederick died on 19th August 1903 and at a guess his birth year was about 1853. Does he show up on any early records in New Zealand such as an occupation and I would to love to know where he came from in England and also who his parents were. He had a brother named Samuel Noah Bailey who married Emily Dina Price in Southland. Any information on him would be welcome - I could send for his birth certificate but thought something may pop up from this wonderful site King William

Just an extra note to this - the daughter of Frederick Noah Bailey and Marget Blee was Isabella McDermott Bailey. It occurs to me that the name of McDermott must be a family name from back somewhere and it did not feature in Margaret's line as far as I know. King William

Thanks to you both - I did have it in mind that the death certificate in 1903 would be filled out by his wife if alive or a child and that depends on their knowledge of him Thanks Robin

--- continued
Just looking at the births to Margaret and Frederick Noah, the last-born, seems to have been 1899 - "Annie BAILEY" (though there is also an "Eli BAILEY" birth in 1900 which could be another child ?)
But obviously when her husband died, Margaret still had young children and so she possibly did re-marry. (Isabella may then have taken on her stepfather's (McDERMOTT) name ?? ).
[Seems there might have been a BAILEY daughter named "Maggie" born 1889 - parents shown as Margaret and Frederick Noel ( but maybe that should read as "Noah" ?) She would have been 17 in 1906 and although named "Maggie" (which is a diminutive of "Margaret"), the 1906 marriage, could of course have been hers ].

Oooh ... Althea ... clever you. Well done !
--------------------------
Hmmm ... there don't appear to be any Margaret (Maggie) BAILEY (BAILY, BAYLEY) deaths which would be a match for the w/o Frederick Noah ?
AND .... only one likely Margaret McDERMOTT (MacDermott) death - 1931 aged 73 years - born circa 1858, which is pretty close ?

Nah ... not sure I can claim credit for finding it (I probably "pinched" it from a link posted by another ?)
I'm none to familiar with Southland ... and there seems to be an awful lot of cemeteries listed ? (It might take a "month of Sundays" to work through them all ?)
I guess it would make sense to find out from that other beaut cemetery website ("clanfraser" thingo - sorry, don't have the link), just what the main Invercargill cemetery is ?? And from the main cem., (if not found there), then work through ALL the others !
