Robert Warnock and Annie Balcombe
|
Hi All, Here's a mystery that comes from a photo of a gravethat was included in some papers that my cousin gave me. Thomas Warnock Walker died 1895 aged 33 years. Also his son Cornelius Warnock Walker aged 6 months.
Warnock is my family name so I wondered where the Warnock fitted in. I thought that his mother, Mary was most likely a Warnock, but her marriage certificate shows that her parents were Thomas Parker and Susan Snell, she was born in Exeter. Thomas Warnock Walkers father was thomas Walker, son of James Walker and Ann Parker, he was born in what appears to be Ballarat Ireland.
Any ideas?

Doubt if it would be Ballarat Ireland
Ballarat - It originated from two Aboriginal words "balla arat", meaning "resting place".

HEllo,
There are quite a number of "Ball*******" in Ireland anad although it may look like Ballrat, it might be worth looking at some Irish place names.
A good place to start (just one of many) might be http://www.irishfamilyresearch.co.uk/homepage.asp
regards
Robyn

Ballarat is definately in Australia. Thousands of Irish townlands start with Ball/ Bally/ Balli (which means town). See www.seanruad.com to find names of townlands in Ireland. Is 'Ballarat, Ireland' written in an old document? if so, perhaps pasting that portion of the writing might help us identify a place in Ireland.

Would you like me to move this thread to Antrim board (where Belfast queries belong) to see if any experts there can help?
