thanks for that but do you have any idea how I can find out what it was like in 1873 and would the west ward St Peters be of any indication? there is no number just North Road and I take it Judith Brodigan must of delivered the child she was there at the birth I think it may be Marys mum as I have found a death for Judith Broduigan Drogheda in1883 aged 90!!  thanks Bernadine

I dont see any specific details online for the 1870s but Slater's of 1846 has a few entries for North Road, Drogheda. Also listed is a Thomas Brodigan esq, of Pilton House.:

there are many entries for North Quay and  North Strand. I see just two North Road entries :

  John Gee - egg merchant
George Richard Clarke  -  Nursery & Seedsman

I am wondering if maybe I could buy an old map of Drogheda that might be an indication of where this West Ward of St Peters may be I have tried to contact the church but as yet no reply I did go through the names of streets and yes very little for North Road;I went 60 yrs ago and I remember it was near the station and up a hill and by the church who knows maybe some one from Drogheda will read this and they may know where it is  I thank you for your help  regards Bernadine

there are maps c1850 available on the Griffiths Website : http://griffiths.askaboutireland.ie/gv4/gv_family_search_form.php

I think the name of the road may not have been official - it was just the North Road out of Drogheda.

to get to the north road you go over the new Boyne bridge and head north, up the hill and along George's St, the road bends to the left.  The North Road starts about 500m north of the bridge. (see the  Google map link above)

I have a 1908 Ordinance Survey Map and it refers to the road, described very well by Shane above, as the North Road. The map also shows the outline of every house on the road.

I should, of course, have said that it is a map of Drogheda Town!

I have tried all the usual places on the net to try and find a map that would depict Drogheda as it was about the late 1800s,I thought with getting the cert it would give an address instead all i got is North Road it did state west ward St Peters do you think that may pin point the area? Does anybody know where this St Peters would be  as in 1875? I'm almost sure they would of been R/C  thanks Bernadine

older certs often dont have house numbers -  most places didn't have address numbers at that time, especially outside the Cities.

There's a John Brodigan listed in the Civil Parish of St. Peters on Griffiths Valuation (c1850) - could he be related ?

an update for you...

the Brodigan Griffiths entry I mentioned is listed in the townland of Moneymore - which looks to be very close to the North Road - and could be included within this townland.
