John William Danson HOSE
« on: Tuesday 28 April 09 12:19 UTC (UK) »

John was born about 1823 (not sure where) son of John HOSE and unknown. He married Emma Elizabeth HOSE (I believe they were cousins) b.21/12/1823 babt 18/7/1824 Kennington Independent.
They married 31/10/1847 in Walworth, Surrey
They had the following children

John Henry Edgar HOSE b.19/9/1848 Rotherhythe
Emma Elizabeth Q2 1850 Newington (probably Rotherhythe as well)
Ruth Adelaide Q3 1852 Ramsgate died St. Lawrence, Ramsgate 27/3/1853
Edward Thomas Q1 1854 Ramsgate died St. Lawrence 24/9/1854
Henry Arthur Q3 1855 Ramsgate died St Lawrence 20/4/1856
Lydia Louisa Q1 1858 Ramsgate

I have just returned from Canterbury records office and none of the children born in Ramsgate were baptised in Ramsgate so I can only presume that they were taken back to Camberwell/Kennington area for baptism however there is nothing on the IGI.
I am also looking for John's birth and who his father John married.

Barry

ps I have sent for Ruth Adelaides birth cert

If you have just taken Ramsgate from the Birth indexes as listed above, then it is a registration district and not just the parish of ramsgate. It will cover a great many parishes in the area.
So if you only looked for christenings in Ramsgate itself that may explain why you didnt find them.

It is also possible that they were not christened at all (or not in a CofE church)
So whilst going back to Kennington is a vague possibility I think it less likely than some others.

I think to answer your other questions you will have to buy some certificates!

You say you dont know where John (1823) was born - have you found the family on later censuses - what does he say there?

1851 no help either - I see why you cant get Johns place of birth!!

HO107 1630 212 33
Thanet
Emma Hose 27 Trinity seamans wife bn walworth
John 2 bn Rotherhithe
Emma 10mths bn Walworth
Hannah Hose visitor 11 bn Walworth

But it looks very much as if they moved from Rotherhithe to Walworth after John's birth, then to Kent within the last year or so.

Would be worth checking if the Kent RO have any surviving ships records to look for John

I know ramsgate well and have found the burials for each of the children that died in infancy and it shows they lived in Boundary Terrace which is on the border of all three churches active at that time. 4 if you include St Lawrence in Thanet where the children are buried.

None of the churches have them christened.

Thats why I wondered if they were christened back in the mothers parish. Its only a 150 mile round trip lol.

I just wish the Mormons had done all the parishes.

I too had a look through the THANET baptisms and they were not baptised Margate or Broadstairs either.

Like you I did come across the three burials for Edward 1854, Henry Arthur 1856 and Ruth Adelaide 1853.

Just to round it off, I also checked non conformist records for Thanet and no Hose! Sorry.
