Thomas Family
« on: Monday 09 November 09 12:54 UTC (UK) »

Hi,new member to the board.I am trying to find information on my family. Can only go so far back then nothing. My father Bryan Thomas, mother Doreen Thomas (Hibbert).Father 2 brothers Fred and Graham ,1 sister Lynn.Mothers relations ?.Never knew her father, lived in Openshawe area 1960's.Brunner Street i believe.I have 2 sisters Wendy ( older) Jennifer ( younger). My Grandad Gilbert was married a couple of times and i believe his dad was called Karl who came from Cork in Ireland, but not 100% sure.My Grandad was a tool maker and also a season ticket holder at Manchester City.I believe one of my mums cousins is "Jack Duckworth" from coronation street ?.Apart from that i do not have any more information.Any information would be great, but i would love to find out who my mums dad was.Thanks.

Hi,

Bill Tarmeys real surname is Cleworth-Piddington so you will probably have some of these in your family tree as he is your mums cousin, he used to live in Gorton, Manchester at the end of my Nan's street.
What was the surname of Karl and Gilbert, were they Hibberts or not, just to clarify?

Regards,

K

Do you have your birth cert, your parents' marriage cert., their birth certs? Once you have those you can construct a tree of at least 3 generations. Then you can work back.

Are you aware that living people should not be mentioned on this site?

We are not related to you, it was just when I was little I thought it was a big deal my nan(Hilda Ireland) living near to Jack Duckworth(Bill Tarmey).

I'll have a bit of a search for you though and will contact you if I find anything

Karen

What you have written is pretty general, so I would not worry. If there is anything unacceptable a moderator will deal with it. This is done to protect people in these days of identity theft etc.
If you do not have your parents' marriage certs., it is easy enough to acquire them. Then if their parents are no longer alive you can post names, dob's etc.
Welcome to Rootschat by the way!

Don't worry about your posting, I've made a few mistakes in my time and i didn't know about not posting info about live people.
Right, I have two possibilities in 1911 for you to go on but you need to work backwards and get a rough idea of when Karl and Gilbert were born/ died.
I have 12 Ivy St, Gorton. Walter Thomas aged 32, watch repairer from Ireland, wife Martha and sons Gilbert(Cool, Charles(4) and Geroge(10mths)
and
the only Carl/Karl Thomas I can find is aged 22 and in the Navy and he is from Killarney,Ireland (which is County Kerry)

Hi,

Smiley

Welcome to Rootschat.

I think this is the reference for your grandad Gilbert's birth:-

Sep 1902
Gilbert Thomas
Manchester 8d 250

I think his actual birthdate is 27 Sept 1902.

and I think his parents were Walter Thomas/Martha Metcalfe and they were married at St Andrews Church, Ancoats on 7 Nov 1899.

If I have this information correct and I am not sure yet, it will confirm that your great grandad was from Cork and he was a watchmaker.

I am going to send you a PM with some more information.
