Amelia BROAD - Freshford
« on: Sunday 19 July 09 11:18 UTC (UK) »

Can anyone help in finding Amelia Broad born c1833 ?

She's on the 1851 census living in Freshford, Somerset with her family - HO107/1940/107/21 but  can't seem to find any other record for her. The family are on the 1841 census - HO107/931/8/10/15 and the 1861 census - RG9/1298/109-9 without her.

Thanks

Hi Ridgehill,

I only have a few minutes as it is 2.00am here and must off to bed Roll Eyes
There is something very strange going on here.

It seems Charles 1837 is possibly the illegitimate son of Ann Broad.

And a Giles Broad married Ann Broad in 1846.

Have a look at Freereg and there are a lot of Broads on there in Somerset.
Cant find anything for Amelia Broad though Huh

I have Charles on all the census sheets he's on, and he gives his place of birth as Freshford. His marriage certificate names his father as Giles Broad.

The only baptism I could find for Charles was the one in 1837 in Freshford, as the illegitimate child of Ann Broad. His birth certificate, which Ann registered named Giles Broad as the father with her name as Ann Broad (formerly Broad) implying they were married. I think she probably lied when she registered the birth. Giles and Ann eventually married in 1846 in Charterhouse Hinton.

I was hoping to get more information on Amelia - baptism/marriage - just to try and confirm all these details.

Sorry I have been unable to confirm anything extra on Amelia Sad

Marriage record of Giles and Ann has this info;
Giles BROAD, batchelor, 35, labourer, abode Hinton, Father Charles Broad, mason
Ann BROAD, spinster, 28, abode Hinton, Father George Broad, labourer
Witnesses; William GANE, Thirza HUMPHRIES

It may be worth checking out Census entries for Fathers and witnesses as Amelia could be with any of them in 1841.
