Help wanted
« on: Tuesday 23 June 09 11:18 UTC (UK) »

Hi

Can anyone help.

I'm trying to find my Grandad's sister who died we think age 7 due to an accident sometime between 1905 and 1930 in Almondbury (Huddersfield).

We believe there must have been an inquest in the death but are unsure as to how we could access such records.

Thanks for any advice

What was her name? Are you sure she was age 7? If so and we can find her birth then possible years of death will be narrowed down!

Hi

Grandad always called her Bella and that his mum (Gertrude Elizabeth) was the black sheep of the family.

We believe she would have either had the surname of Lightfoot or Kaye. From the snippets of conversation he told us she was scalded. We think she would have been born about 1903 to 1915 (there is no details of her on the 1911 census)

Hi and welcome to rootschat Grin

If her date of death can be established and it seems there was an inquest it's very likely that the local paper for Huddersfield, if that's where the death occurred, will have had an item about the inquest.

So taking it step by step, if you give us her name maybe someone can come up with some more info about approx when she died... if you buy the death cert it will give date of death then  asking the Local Library to chech archived newspaper for the time around her death becomes possible.

Hi

Thankyou for your help. I looked at freebmd and could not find a Bella Kaye or Lightfoot dying at a young age.

I know her mum Gertrude Elizabeth Kaye married a Elijah William Lightfoot in 1913

I wouldnt rule out the Gertrude Kaye that Dee found.
There doesnt seem to be a birth for a Bella or Isabella Kaye around that time.
If she had the same name as her Mum then it is likely she was known by a pet name - which could for some reason not known to us, be Bella.

Hi

Had thought about investigating the Gertrude that Dee found...when i was chatting to my mum earlier it dawned on us that Bella could have been a pet name ...

Gertrude Kaye was born 1875 married 1913 and died 1949

Thanks to everyone for their help so far ... Grin
