Does anyone know where this photo was taken?

I initially thought this might have been taken in Berkshire but it has subsequently been suggested that it may be in Sussex.

Why not try the War Memorials Trust, telling them as much as you know?

It does look like the South Downs in the background but have not idea where it may be.

There aren't many war memorials where the cross is enclosed by the circle.

This one at Longstock, Hampshire is very similar.

That would fit with the South Downs being in the background, Longstock is in the Hampshire part.

Thanks so much for all your help. I am going along the Test Valley on Saturday and I shall take my camera and check out the memorial at Longstock. If it the right one I shall post a photo on here for comparison.

It will be interesting to see a picture from the correct angle.  Hope it's the place in the photo.

I think that with many war memorials and preaching crosses, the cross being enclosed in a circle might be to make the top bit less likely to break ?   Celtic crosses are often of that pattern ...

Just an idea ... shout me down if you wish !

Looking forward to seeing the modern photo for comparison ...

I don't think you'll be able to get an exact match for the picture. It looks like there's a hedge blocking the view, and you may have to go into a car park to get the right spot.

I have driven through Longstock thousands of times over the years and have never noticed the War memorial. I shall be really pleased if it is the right one.

I listed this photograph on the Hampshire list and did not get a response. I then listed it on the Sussex site and have been inundated with people telling me it is in Hampshire. Where is the logic in that?

The google earth image suggests that this might be the right location.

P.S. The pub on the corner opposite used to be called the Turf Cutter and I have enjoyed the occasional drink and a meal there. I have also cut down the road by the side of the pub as it is very picturesque and runs alongside the Test for a short way.
