Red Cross Street, Leicester
« on: Saturday 27 June 09 11:51 UTC (UK) »

Just wondering if anyone with local knowledge of Leicester could help me with some information please.

I`ve just been given some details about two burials at Welford Road Cemetery. They are both buried in the same plot and the address given for both is Red Cross Street, Leicester. One in 1886 and one in 1887.

Does Red Cross Street still exist or has it been renamed? I`ve done a quick internet search but can find no mention. If I could find out where it was and what civil parish it came under, it may help me find out more about them and their families.

Many thanks in advance for all replies. Steve

Hi Diddy,

Thank you for your two replies and the information enclosed.

Hiya Mike,

Thank you for your two replies and the two maps. Great stuff.
I can see Peacock Lane mentioned just across the road from Red Cross Street.

I actually had information on three ancestors buried at Welford Road cemetery. The first one I found had parents living a 2 Peacock Lane in 1891. The second two lived at Red Cross Street, hence the post. So potentially, could be same parents who moved along the road a little further Undecided

Hope you are keeping well, nice to hear from you again and thanks again Mike for your interest in my post Grin
