The parish of St Mary's was formed in 1875 out of the part of the parish of Hardingstone which up until then had covered most of Northampton south of the river Nene.
If you are looking as late as 1877 you need to check when the other newer parishes were formed for example Abington, St James and there may also have been a new one to the north of the town.
