« on: Wednesday 17 June 09 23:28 UTC (UK) »

Hi All.. Can I looking for help with information re. the parents of George Mansfield who was born 23 August 1812 in Ashley cum Silverley Cambridge. His parents were Simon Mansfield and Susan, no surname on any of the information I can find here in Australia.
If anyone can help or is related to this family I would love to hear from you..

Welcome to Rootschat!

See also crosspost at http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,387745.new/boardseen.html#new

23 Aug 1812 was his baptism, not his birth.

George is the only Mansfield baptised at Ashley, although there's a burial of a Sarah aged 68 in 1829, who looks to be too old to be George's mother. The only burial of a Simon Mansfield on the NBI was at Bury St Edmunds Suffolk on 3 May 1818 age 40. As this was where George married it seems likely that it's the right Simon.

To find his mother's maiden name you'll need to find her marriage to Simon Mansfield. Possibly someone may be able to find the marriage on Boyds Marriage Index as it's not on the IGI or BVRI

Hi David and thank you so much for your reply mate. Yes, you are correct about George being the only child of Susan and Simon baptized at Ashley. The only other child I have been able to find was a daughter Mary and she was baptized at Horning Sheath but again, on the church record that I saw the parents were listed as Simon Mansfield and Susan, again no surname.

Thank you also for the suggestion re Boyd's Marriage Index but unfortunately I have no idea where I can gain access to it as I have never heard of it.

Once again THANK YOU.. Your reply was very much appreciated.

Hi,
There is no marriage listed for  Simon Mansfield on Cambridgeshire Marriage index, perhaps they married in Suffolk.

Thank you Tempsford.. I have been searching for a marriage of Simon Mansfield and Susan literally for years but I have been unable to find one on information available here in Australia.. I have tried various spelling of both Simon and Mansfield with no success so desperation and frustration have finally got me to roots chat..

Thank you for replying..

I looked on Boyds marriage index and although I couldn't find a Simon/Susan marriage, there were a couple of earlier Simon Mansfield marriages in Wickhambrook Suffolk. Wickhambrook is not far feom Ashley.

Hello Sue and thank you . Based on a calculated guess on my part I would think any marriage between Simon and Susan would be between maybe 1798 and 1812, their son's baptism year..

I really appreciate you taking the time to reply Sue..

Hi Sue. Thank you so much for taking the time to do that for me. Now the plot thickens to try and see if somehow they tie into the family. One thing about doing the family tree, it never gets boring. Thanks again Sue. hugzzzz
