Now, I have another problem with GEORGE ARSTALL,

On the IGI there are 2 GEORGE ARSTALL's christened in 1795 in HOLLINFARE (about a mile away from Cadishead where George states he was born on Census).

How would i go about finding the right one!!!

The Arstall family seem to use the same names for their children George, Hugh, Luke etc.

There is a Tree on Ancestry showing his parents as Hugh/Mary...Would the Parish registers show his Fathers name on his marriage?

I was going to say, the one with a father Hugh sounded nicer than the other one  Grin

I don't do much pre-census stuff but I'm pretty sure the marriage record wouldn't show their fathers. On the copies of pre-1837 registers I have for my own lot, there isn't a space where it could have been mentioned at all. If you're lucky, one of the witnesses will be a sibling you can identify.

Alternatively, you could check the parish registers for an early death of one of the boys - if one died, it would probably say burial of George Arstall, son of xxx and you could rule him out (at first sight, I can't see a second George Arstall born ca. 1795 Lancashire on the censuses)

Oh and ... was your George sentenced to 3 months imprisonment for larceny in 1840?  Wink
