Completed:Number plate and sign
« on: Sunday 12 July 09 13:09 UTC (UK) »

Is it possible for someone to give me details about the car please and perhaps what the sign hanging from the building says.
I am trying to find out where this photograph is taken as I am interested in the older woman.

It was taken in the USA.
Thank-you.

Hi Maryanne...it's very pixelated on enlargement...all I can make out is part of what appears to be a taxi number 804...you would need to scan just that portion at about 600 dpi if you have the original...it may be that the writing below is the state...but not sure.

It could be a 1937 or 1938 Studebaker Dictator. The bits I can see do look like the pictures near the bottom of this page (http://www.oldcarandtruckpictures.com/Studebaker/) about the cars, but I'm quite happy to be corrected.

Have found the original and scanned at 600 dpi  as suggested.

Well, I don't think its a Studebaker now judging by the shape of the badge, but possibly definitely maybe from 1937-38. There are several cars at the time almost identical in shape.
Someone should be able to identify that badge now.

some extracts from the photo for you ... the number plate, the sign and a possible house number, just below the sign

The partial details on the reg. plate seem do look like 804 (as Treetotal  mentioned).. and below is what looks like 555 ?

I cant see any details in the sign, but the layout might be useful for a later comparison. The house number is very blurred - I might be imagining things but I think the last two digits could be 31...

The logo looks very much like Checker Motor Corporation - manufacturer of the traditional yellow cab in the US................

Thanks for helping everyone.

The family may have living in Philadelphia at that time and I was hoping that the number plate may have the state on it.

Living in the UK I know nothing about US cars.
