Could anyone help with a problem I have encountered?
Walter Hunt Slater is listed on 1881 census as grandson living with James Hunt Head, Henry Hunt Slater Son Unmarried and Hester Hunt Slater daughter Unmarried.
How do I find out who Walter's parents are?
Thanks,
Currtom.

Thanks very much Carole,
That looks very likely, so I probably will never know the father unless by chance it is on his birth certificate. Oh well yet another illegitimate!!
Thanks again for your time and effort.
Curttom.

HI
Just backtracking through the census and found this in the 1861 census
District of Norwich St Martin at Oak
Street Address Fox and Goose Yard
Easter Slater 23 Unm' Occ Horsehair Weaver bn Norwich Henry Slater 4 Norwich Easter Slater 2 bn Norwich
livin with them is
James Hunt 23 Unm' Occ Horsehair Weaver bn Norwich
There is a marriage int he reg area of Blowfield Norfolk in 1869 which has on the same page an Easter Slater and a James Hunt
So it would seem that at least the first Easter did at least marry the possible father of her children pity that the second one didn't
Wendy

Thanks for all the info Carole and Wendy.
Weavers by name and weavers by nature!! What a tangled family web to unravel!!
Much appreciated.

I believe Walter Hunt SLATER was indeed the illegitimate son of Esther Hunt SLATER. As mentioned earlier, Esther (my gr. grandmother), married Hammond SPENCER on 30th July 1882 at the Sudbury, Suffolk, register office. The couple subsequently had five more children. I believe Walter married Charlotte Emma J. GREEN 3rd qtr 1903 at N. Witchford (probably Chatteris, Cambs) where the SPENCER family were then living. Walter and Charlotte had at least five children between 1904 and 1914. As I child I remember being introduced to Walter on several occasions when he visted his sister Kate (my grandmother) at Chadwell Heath, Essex. I recall he was a jovial portly gentleman. I believe I discovered Walter had died 1st qtr 1971, Ely (4a 947) - he must have been 90 years of age. I have a one or two old photos.
