Frederick Noah BAILEY
« on: Thursday 18 June 09 23:32 UTC (UK) »

This is just a query before I send for a death certificate for Frederick. He was born about 1853/55 and emigrated to New Zealand  on the Western Monarch in 1878, arriving in January 1879.
He married Marget Blee in April 1879 in NZ - she was on the same voyage and was from Cornwall.
He died in 1903 in NZ aged 48.
Another relative who is attempting to find his ancestry has said he has a memory that the Bailey family came from the area around Salisbury.
Just one more favour - is there anywhere on-line a photo or image of the Western Monarch.

Hi Gortonboy,
I have seen a census somewhere lately where it describes Margaret as working in a tin mine - does that sound right, if not, I would love to see it thanks,

Hi King William Smiley
Unfortunately there is no trace of Frederick Noah BAILEY in Wiltshire. In fact no bapt/birh rego anywhere under that name. So must have been reg under plain Frederick.

Do you have marriage cert? If not, might be the one to purchase if parents names not on death cert.

Cheers,
Trish

Gortonboy,
Thanks for the census, it appears the age to be a mine worker was 10 years old. This also gives me a street address thanks.

Trish,
Sadly a marriage certificate of 1879 would not give much detail as I once saw one a friend had from that era.
It was in 1880 that by law they had to put more detail on the certificate such as parents and birthplace, previous to that they only supplied their name and I think their age and current address, I do know it was minimal information.
Today I am going to post off my request for Frederick's death certificate and as his wife died 18 years later she was there to put in hopefully the correct details as to his family - I do hope that in the section marked "where born" she has not put "England" - I am hoping it will specify some town or city in England.
Thanks to both of you,
Robin

Best of luck with death cert.

Let us know the outcome Grin Then we can hopefully help more.

I ordered some certs when I was in NZ last November. Paid on Wednesday and they were in my mailbox when I got home to Australia the following Monday Cool

Thank you to you all, I did not have any details of the James family, now I also know that Elizabeth James's father was a blacksmith and who her mother was and also the names of her siblings.
I will come back to this when I receive the death certificate of Frederick,
