Marion DOBBIE
« on: Friday 19 June 09 02:36 UTC (UK) »

I am trying to determine if the Marion Dobbie who died approx April 13, 1931 is my Great Grandmother, she was buried in Lowestoft Cemetery on April 16, 1931. In the Suffolk registry of deaths she is the right age for my Grt Grandmother 81. Her death was registered in Mutford Vol 4A p 1134. Is it possible to check the Suffolk Registry Office and determine who reported her death and any other info that may help me confirm that I have the right person.  Her husband was Dr Robert J A dobbie who died in Australia in 1885. She was born in Little Walsingham, Norfolk in 1851.  I have not been able to find her on any census after 1881. Legal documents that I found in Australia dated 1899 show her address as 'Lowestoft' with no more specific address. Cemetery records indicate that in 1931 she lived at 44 Norwich Rd, Lowestoft.

I have ordered from the GRO records for other Mary Ann or Annie Dobbie but have struck out, money is a little tight right now so I cant send for the cert unless I am certain that I have the right person.

The other option that I was thinking  was to try and find an obit for her in the Lowestoft Journal for these dates in 1931.

Both of her parents are als buried in Lowestoft Cemetary - her father Robert Pomfrey was interned Mar 10, 1893 and her mother Mary Ann (Rawston) Pomfrey was inter Jan 29, 1903.
Any assistance is appreciated.

I think you will find it is not a case of "not getting the cert till you know if it is the right person" but more of needing the cert to extablish whether or not it is the right person!

The name of the informant will not be on any free record at the Local Office, anyone wanting that info will need to purchase the cert.

In the meantime, you say you cant find her after 1881. Can you provide the ref for her in 1881, then we can have a go at finding her on later censsues for you, though reading your post again, it appears she went to Australia after that time.

This appears to be the 1881 ref.

Her husband left for Australia with the twins, he died there in Jan 1885. per some documents trying to settle his affairs in Australia, his wife was living in 'Woodlands" Banwell, Somerset in 1886 - when I checked this address in 1891 she was not there. Another document from 1899 has her living in Lowestoft. Her parents lived there. The father died in 1893 and the mother in 1903. they are buried in the Lowestoft Cemetary.

What info would be available in the SRO concerning her death? Is the Lowestoft Journal available on m/f for 1931??

you are correct she did live in Oldham, Lancashire in 1881, my Grandmother was born in July after the census. Six of the 7 children were sent to Canada at varying times in 1883, my Grandmother in 1884, 1886 & 1887. The other sibling a sister died in England in 1893 lived with an Aunt (brother's sister)

thanks for any assistance and guidance...
