Simon MANSFIELD - Help Please
« on: Friday 19 June 09 23:17 UTC (UK) »

I recently learned via rootschat that Simon Mansfield was buried at Bury St Edmunds Suffolk on 3 May 1818 but I am unable to confirm that on the resources I have available to me here in Australia.

I cannot find details of his marriage to his wife Susan (surname not known) .

I have however found where there was a Susan Mansfield buried on 27 August 1848 in Bury St Edmunds Suffolk St Mary but I cannot find any additional information to show that this Susan was indeed the wife of Simon Mansfield.

Here in Australia a death certificate usually lists the spouses of the deceased along with their children, parents etc. Does the English certificates also show these details..

As I am unfamiliar with your system in England any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi

Info on death certs for that period is pretty hit and miss.  Anybody could report a death so the info was based on what that person knew.

It may show her as "widow of ....." if the person reporting the death knew that info but there are no guarantees

Hi Carole.. That sounds very similar to here and you are correct in saying it can be "pretty hit and miss". I guess any information given in those circumstances is only as reliable as the person providing the information.
Having said that, at times it is surprising what you can learn from the certificates..
Thank you so much for you reply..

The suffolk burial index has both these burials.

only additional info is there ages at death and place of birth .
simon was 40 (birth year 1778) born St james BSE  and susan 73 (birth year 1775) born St Marys BSE                  no mention that they were related.

hi folks, Graham & I have made progress on this via email. we are now looking for:

marriage of: Simon mansfield & Susan Sargent  around 1800

first child was born in Ashley cum Silverley, Cambridgshire but they then lived / died in bury St edmunds, suffolk so marriage could be either cambs or suffolk. don't know where susan born.
