Hi KHP Did the deaths happen before 1938 There are indexes I can look for those; but the fiche have allbeen removed by the local branch of NZSG to the new Treasury building which is not yet open.
I think?? the library still has the later bound copies of papers If you pm the details I can find out who has the info Bye Althea

I am trying to find out more about a Frederick Cowling who married Mary Ann Connelly in 1892. Their son William was born in 1893 when he was shown as a hotelkeeper with his wife living in Pollen Street, Thames. Any information about this family would be appreciated.

Hi Brentor Boy,
There is a Frederick Cowling death at Shortland Street Cemetery 1912 aged 56
If you want a copy of the death certificate you can order it here.
http://bdmhistoricalrecords.identityservices.govt.nz/Search/Search.aspx?Path=%2fqueryEntry.m%3ftype%3ddeaths#SearchResults
There is a probate for Frederick: http://www.archway.archives.govt.nz/#
Could this be Mary Ann's death 1956 .... Age 90 Location Tauranga Anglican Cemetery
Looks like William is buried in the same cemetery ..... died 1948 aged 56. To order the death certs for them just use the link above .
Althea will see your message when she comes on line and might be able to have a looksy for you as well.
I hope this helps a little bit.
Cheers KHP
ADDED: Are you in NZ? If so and a member of NZSG you can get in touch with the branch for a look up of the two death notices.

Hi KHP,
Many thanks for your prompt reply which has quite excited me.
I am working from a photograph taken by Foy Brothers of Thames, probably in the 1890s, which was discovered in the Cowling "archives". It shows a man in his mid-forties, a woman about 10 years his junior and a boy aged 5/6.There are no other markings. I am also trying to trace Frederick Cowling, my great grandfather's brother, born 1853, whom I have been unable to locate in later UK records.
The information you give me from burial records, including the approximate DoB of Fred of NZ and the age differential between him and his wife is broadly in line with what I already know. Obviously my next step is to obtain a copy of their marriage certificate. That should settle things one way or the other.
Incidentally, I am in the UK.
Again, many thanks - your help is greatly appreciated.
