relocation due to war - records?
« on: Saturday 20 June 09 17:31 UTC (UK) »

Hi

can anyone tell me if there are any records of where children were relocated during the war?

I ask because I have a relative visiting from canada in July and he would like to visit the place his mother (now deceased) went to as a child during the war.  he seems to think it was in the allendale area?

thanks

hi Shazzi, would suggest you contact the northumberland records office at:

Northumberland Collections Service
Woodhorn
Woodhorn
Queen Elizabeth II Country Park
Ashington
Northumberland
NE63 9YF
Tel: 01670 528080
Fax: 01670 528083
E-mail: collections@woodhorn.org.uk

if such records exist i would think this would be the place (or know where they are!)

Hi Shazzi,

I've been thinking about this since you posted  yesterday - came to the same conclusion as Diddy but if they don't have such records then it might be worth asking if they have any relevant school records for Allendale - on the offchance that your relative is right.

You might find a familiar name.

Hi Christine, great lateral thinking!!

my mum too was evacuated from Tyneside as a 5 year old, but she went to Brampton in Cumberland (as then). my gandmother taught at the school as she went too , also my aunt.

Hope you find something Shazzi.

Thanks to Brian Pears the Genuki Northumberland site is packed with information and is always right up to date.
I'm sure it must be one of the best Genuki boards in the country.

I'm sure it is, too.  Whilst being grateful to all the volunteers who provide us with the entire site - and counties that I have had to learn about as I've gone along, the Northumberland section is without doubt the most comprehensive.

Just a thought - did you actually find out anything when you phoned, Shazzi?
