Hi Wand, Found your family in 1891 but not the 1881 census. They were staying at 30 Cables Wynd Leith. He was a carter and they had some 9 children at that time. The children were as follows:
Thos Jas 17 b in Ireland
John 15 b Leith
Joseph 13 b Leith
Patrick 11 b Leith
Margt Jane 9 b Leith
George 7 b Leith
and the rest you know. William has a middle initial H. Would have thought that they would have been in 1981 census but they may have not been here on that particular night. Hope this is of use, Thinlizy

Hi Wand and T  Smiley

This looks possibly the family in 1881 from the info T showed on the 1891 census . The transcript I am looking at may be a bit messy, a good one to look at on the SP transcript (no original image available for the 1881 Scottish Census):

John Donie 30, carter, b. Taron (?spl) Ireland
Elizabeth Donie 28 b. Taron Ireland
Thomas Donie 8 b. Taron Ireland
John Donie 6 b. So. Leith, Edinburghshire
Joseph Donie 4 b. So. Leith, Edinburghshire
Patrick Donie 2 b. So. Leith, Edinburghshire
Margaret Jane Donie 5 Weeks b. So. Leith, Edinburghshire

Address: 29 Queen Street,  Leith

Hi T

On Ancestry, search fields are very flexible. With the info you provided from the 1891, I searched for parents by first names and children born/living in Leith.
