Armstrong Birchall Wareing Billingham Littler Doyle Burke
« on: Friday 25 February 05 12:18 UTC (UK) »

James Armstrong (b 1845) married Isabella Wareing (b 1849) in 1867 in Wigan.
Isaac Billingham (b 1862) married Elizabeth (b 1864) prior to 1886.
George Billingham (b 1822) married Tamar Littler (b 1834) in 1854.

All lived in or around Ashton in Makerfield/Wigan - anybody have any more information?

Also, Peter Doyle married Mary Burke in Leigh, 1873 (both born in Ireland I believe).

I would be extremely grateful for any information, and am happy to share copies of certificates and census entries I have already acquired.

Hi Julie,

I have no connection with your family but I was hoping to find out what census returns you have already found them in and what you are currently stuck with ?

We do love puzzles to work out....!

Regards

I have most of the census entries for James and Isabella Armstrong, and some for Hugh Armstrong and his wife Mary Birchall.
The problems I am having at the moment are determining which of the Thomas Doyle entries in the 1901 census is the one that married Alice Ann Billingham in 1903 - I have a good idea which one but am awaiting their marriage certificate to confirm this.  Similarly, I thought I had located the correct Mary Birchall (and obtained a copy of her birth certificate, Addlington/Wigan in 1869) but working forward through the census entries discovered she did not marry Hugh Armstrong, so I have now ordered Hugh Armstrong's marriage certificate in order to establish the name of Mary Birchall's father - hopefully this will point me towards the correct Mary Birchall in the 1881 census.
Thanks for your interest
